Ingredients

Scale

1 lb ground chuck (80/20 blend)

2 tbsp freshly ground coffee (medium roast)

1 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp kosher salt

2 tsp black pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

(Optional: ¼ tsp cayenne, pinch of cocoa or cinnamon)

Cheese slices (optional)

Buns & toppings of choice

Instructions

1. Make the Coffee Rub: Mix coffee, brown sugar, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Add cayenne or cocoa if desired.

2. Form Patties: Roll ground beef into loose 2 oz balls.

3. Heat Pan: Preheat cast iron skillet to high heat (around 450°F).

4. Smash & Season: Place a beef ball on the skillet, press down with parchment and a burger press until ¼-inch thick. Season top with coffee rub.

5. Cook & Flip: Cook 45 seconds, then flip and cook 30 seconds more. Add cheese if using.

6. Assemble: Serve on toasted buns with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For best results, avoid overworking the beef.

Use a cast iron skillet for optimal crust.

Pairs well with smoky BBQ sauce or caramelized onions.
